FAQs
Will replacement windows be a good investment?
Yes, for a variety of reasons: First, they look good and improve the appearanceand curb appeal of your home. Second, you’ll realize a substantial savings on your heating and cooling bills. Third, they’re virtually maintenance-free, which eliminates painting and maintenance costs. And finally, because the warranty on
our EZ Does It installed windows is transferable, they’ll easily add to the resale value of your home.
Do EZ Windows Online windows require a lot of maintenance?
EZ Windows won’t stick, and you don’t have to remove storm windows in order to clean them. In fact, you can do it all from inside your home. An occasional wipe with a damp cloth will keep your windows looking like new for years to come.
I have been reading about different test results on windows. How should this impact my buying decisions?
Be careful when looking at extremely specific results since many of them do not really indicate how well the window will work for you. Some apply to just certain parts of the window, like the glass and its R-value, and do not give an overall picture. Tested in nationally-certified labs, our windows are engineered to provide the optimum in energy savings and are monitored by the National Fenestration Rating Council.
Is there a way to know how energy efficient and durable a window will be?
Two organizations, the American Architectural Manufacturing Association (AAMA) and the National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC), test the performance and quality standards for windows.
The NFRC established standards for thermal performance.
R-value: is the resistance a material has to the flow of heat (the higher the R-value, the greater
the resistance).
U-value: is the amount of heat that is transferred through a material. (the lower the U-value, the
better insulating quality).
SHGC (Solar Heat Gain Coefficient): Once again the lower the better.
VT (Visible Transmittance): The higher the visible transmittance, the more daylight is
transmitted.
The AAMA established standards for structural integrity, air infiltration, water infiltration resistance and forced entry resistance.
Structural Integrity is the ability to withstand wind and other dynamic pressures. This is rated in design pressure (DP). The higher a product’s design pressure rating, the greater the amount of wind or pressure the window will withstand.
Air Infiltration tests involve the equivalent of 25 mph wind. The lower the air infiltration rating the better.
Water Infiltration tests a window’s ability to resist water leakage through the window frame, sashes, joints, weather-stripping, etc. No leakage is permitted under this test criteria. Forced entry is tested by a certified lab technician using many different tools to simulate breaking into a home through the window. Next, windows and doors are subjected to hundreds of pounds of force to try to lift or push them open while in the locked position.

What is more important in saving energy, the frame or the glass?
A frame insulated with foam blocks thermal conductivity and is more energy efficient than a frame that relies on air to insulate. However, since 80% of a window is glass, real heating and cooling savings come from what is known as improved glass performance.
All EZ Windows use the latest in high performance glass technology, Our glass sealing system is the advanced PPG Intercept System. Our energy saving glass choices range from clear insulated, LoE3 – to the top rated Solarban 70 XL with dual air spaces and three panes of glass. Argon gas or a blend of argon and krypton gases is injected between the panes of all our ENERGY STAR® windows. Unlike most other spacer systems, the technologically advanced PPG Intercept System features a structural warm edge alloy that expands and contracts with your window unit while not conducting heat or cold. Not only does EZ’s spacer system improve
performance, it has been proven to increase the longevity of the insulated glass unit.
What energy-saving options should I know about?
Above all, consider performance glass options. EZ Windows feature an advanced PPG Intercept warm edge spacer with argon gas or a blend of argon and krypton gases. Our Low-E glass options are excellent barriers against ultraviolet rays which fade carpet, furniture, draperies, and even woodwork. Argon and Krypton gases are denser than air and resist cold and heat. These inert gases are colorless, odorless, nonflammable, and above all, safe. Not only does argon and krypton gas help to increase the energy efficiency of a window, they will make your home quieter as well.
All of our windows, the EZ Saver, EZ Value, Ez Premium and EZ Extreme windows qualify for the Federal Stimulus Tax Credit while meeting or exceeding the energy-saving requirements for all four climate zones set forth by the ENERGY STAR® Window program.
What is Solarban® 70XL soft coat?
Solarban® 70XL Solar Control Low-E Glass is a Magnetic Sputter Vacuum Deposition (MSVD) soft-coat, high-performance glass that combines the appearance of transparent, color-neutral glass with an unprecedented combination of solar control and visible light transmittance.
Besides energy savings, what other benefits come with new replacement windows?
